Staff and supporters of NLDM hold fundraisers throughout the year both in Honduras and in the United States to help finance the various programs and projects within the ministry. Sometimes the funds are designated for a specific area, such as the capital campaign, school supplies, or the annual church camp. Funds raised that are not designated are put in the general operating budget.
In Honduras, the Happy Hands staff and families work together to hold an annual school carnival. This festive occasion is open to the community. Many games and contests are offered and crafts booths are set up for the enjoyment of participants. The funds from this festival are used to help finance the school's operating expenses.Another fundraiser is held twice a year by the staff of Happy Hands. Using 5-gallon jugs and standing at intersections throughout Tegucigalpa, staff members collect change from pedestrians and drivers in a day-long effort to raise money for the school.
The leaders of New Life Deaf Church have their own fundraisers. One popular means of raising money is a rummage sale held near a popular marketplace or the soccer fields. The deaf leaders make and sell food at the rummage sales. The money raised helps pay for Bible study materials, church social events, and emergency expenses of those in need.
In the U.S., supporters also hold fundraising events. In Texas, one family is now hosting an annual Memorial Day Pig-Out BBQ fundraiser. In Arkansas, a group of people in Little Rock hosted a large rummage sale using their church as the location of the event. In Tennessee, two outdoor-enthusiasts began an annual bike-a-thon in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Another supporter holds Stamp Camp card making workshops two or three times annually to help raise money for various projects in the ministry.
Every fundraiser, big and small, is a great source of help to the ministry. If you have ideas for a fundraiser that you would like to hold in support of NLDM, we would love to hear about it. We can post the description and date in our website to help get the word out. Or, perhaps you are interested in attending or supporting a fundraiser that is already being organized. For more information, you can email Pat Rittenhouse at prittenhouse@nldm.org or check out Current Events page from time to time for upcoming fundraisers.
