Missionary Opportunities

New Life Deaf Ministry is seeking both short- and long-term missionaries.  Perhaps you have an interest in serving with NLDM as a short-term missionary, summer intern/volunteer, or in a long-term position.  We are looking at ways we can improve the Ministry by incorporating other believers into its work and mission.

If you are interested in joining NLDM as a short- and/or long-term missionary, fill out the Initial Contact Form and return as an attachment to Christy Owen at cowen@nldm.org.

Here are some current opportunities to serve with New Life Deaf Ministry:

Short-Term Mission Opportunities
(one week to six months)

Mission Team member -- One of the most common ways to serve with NLDM as a short-term missionary is to join a one-week mission team.  See Mission Teams page for more information.

Teacher's Assistant -- The Happy Hands School year begins in February and ends in November.  During typical U.S. summer months, we often need extra support with our school as we are hosting mission teams.  This is a great opportunity for college students.  Internships and practicum experiences are also a possibility.

Mission Team support person -- Short-term missionaries may come for several weeks and several months to help NLDM staff host mission teams.  No specific skills needed, just a willingness to be flexible and serve where needed.

Administrative support person -- Short-term missionaries who have skills in accounting, bookkeeping, and/or organization would be useful to NLDM's administrative staff both for the general ministry and the school.  Computer skills a big plus.

Tutor/Children's mentor -- Many of our Happy Hands children are always in need of some extra academic support and encouragement.  These volunteers may also help with school decorations and classroom materials.

Adult Deaf Mentor -- NLDM welcomes Deaf adult Christians who can come and encourage the adult Deaf community here in Honduras through the Deaf leadership team and New Life Deaf Church.

Long-Term Mission Opportunities
(one year or more)

Funding Coordinator/Fundraiser -- If you are a people person who can get excited about NLDM's mission, share NLDM's stories, and challenge folks to join this journey with New Life Deaf Ministry, this may be the position for you.  Organization, planning, and computer skills required.  This position may be accomplished in Honduras or as a state-side supporter.

Construction Supervisor -- NLDM has recently purchased a piece of property and over the next several years will be tearing down the current buildings, preparing the foundation of the land, making plans for building, and constructing a new school/church facility.  The construction supervisor would help with all aspects of this project including work on-site, planning, and finances.

School Teacher or Assistant (Pre-K thru 4th Grade) -- Individuals who possess good American Sign Langauge skills, have experience working with the Deaf community, and are open to being trained to work in Happy Hands School may want to consider a position as a school teacher or assistant.  Certified school teachers in the U.S. are a plus but not required.

Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper -- Administrative support is a continuing need for NLDM as the Ministry expands.  Bookkeepers are needed to work on QuickBooks.  This position may be accomplished in Honduras or as a state-side supporter.

Community Liaison -- This person should possess good Spanish skills, enjoy working with people, and be able to coordinate activities.  The community liaison person would work to develop and coordinate a volunteer program in Tegucigalpa, maintain community supporter relations, and provide community awareness about NLDM and the Happy Hands School in Honduras.

Adult Evangelism/Discipleship Mentor -- A Deaf person for this position is preferable but not required.  Good American Sign Language skills and Bible knowledge is a must.  This person would act as a support person for Deaf Honduran leaders in the church, assist with Bible class planning, lead devotions, provide one-on-one Bible teaching, and help with Bible class curriculum for the church and school.
