Deaf Hondurans ... an unreached people!
Like many developing countries worldwide, Honduras, one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, has for many years left behind a forgotten population of people, Deaf people.
A deaf child living in Honduras faces many of the same obstacles the country's abandoned street children face:
-
Deaf children grow up with little or no education and an extreme lack of communication within their family.
-
They may have only very minimal sign language skills and many can not even write their own name.
-
Their family often shuns them as uneducable and puts them to work in the home cleaning or taking care of siblings.
-
They are not able to function as equal members of society and are looked down upon as weaker and lesser.
Even more devastating than the societal detachment, many Deaf people in Honduras have never 'heard' the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Through New Life Deaf Ministry, the Deaf population of Honduras is being changed forever. Deaf people are coming to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Deaf Christians are being equipped to reach other Deaf Hondurans for Christ.
